Does God in Bible Tell Lies
Does God in Bible make false statements
It is difficult to assimilate this fact but if one reads Genesis, one can concur that God in Bible tells lies.
Genesis
Genesis describes the beginning of creation and how God created everything in six days and took rest on the seventh day. It gives an account when Adam and Eve were residing in the garden of eden. God also used to roam in the same garden. The garden was full of vegetation and had various trees. God had forbidden Adam and Eve to eat anything from the Tree of Knowledge present in the middle of the garden.
Please read the following verses to familiarise yourself with the verses pertaining to the tree of knowledge.
Genesis 2 Tree of Knowledge
2.15 - The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
2.16 - And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
2.17 - but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
The gist of the above lines is that the tree was actually a tree of knowledge. Both Adam and Eve were ignorants without knowledge and therefore had no realisation that they were naked. See 2:25 below
2.25 - Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
The serpent knew the truth that if Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge they will gain conscience but will not die, supporting the fact that God had lied to Adam and Eve. See Genesis 3 verses below.
Genesis 3 - The Fall - Snake Tells Adam & Eve the Truth
3.1 - Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
3.2 - The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
3.3 - but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”3.4 - “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
3.5 - “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
3.6 - When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
3.7 - Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
From the above account it is clear that the snake was telling both Adam and Eve the truth. The moment they ate fruit from the tree of knowledge they gained awareness. They certainly did not die at that point thus proving that God had lied to them.
Obviously when God found out about this, he was not pleased. He therefore cursed both Adam and Eve for this act of theirs. The God then made them clothes and finally evicted them from the Garden of Eden. See further Genesis 3 verses below.
Genesis 3 - Tree of Life
3.21 - The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
3.22 - And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
3.23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.
3.24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
What is clear from the verses above is that God did not want Adam and Eve to become eternal and live forever. He knew both Adam and Eve were going to die one day that is why he was afraid that like they have eaten from the tree of knowledge, they might eat from the tree of life and become eternal.
This clearly proves that God was certainly lying and not telling the truth to Adam and Eve. It therefore stands correct that God in bible has made false statements.
