What does the Bible say about being a Vegetarian
Before coming to the topic of bible asking people to be vegetarians, it is very important for people to understand who is giving the knowledge of the Bible. We all are living in this current universe which is a part of 21 multiverses of a God named Kaal. This Kaal God is also known as Satan, Devil or Shaitaan. The Supreme Lord or the Supreme Father God is different to this Kaal God.
The knowledge of all the Holy Scriptures i.e. the Bible, the Quran, the Vedas, Bhagavad Gita, Puranas has been given by Kaal God (Devil). He has given the knowledge about the Supreme God, and also his own opinions and view points. That is the primary reason for so many illogical and contradicting statements present in these holy scriptures. With this ground rule established, now when people will read the Bible or any other holy scripture, they will be able to grasp its meaning. Read below to now find out what the Bible says about being a vegetarian.
God Ordered Humans to be Vegetarians - Genesis
The book of Genesis talks about the creation of universe. In there it is mentioned what humans were ordered to eat. Please read Genesis 1:29-30 below. It can be considered that these were the early orders of God.
Genesis 1:29-30
1:29 - And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.
God even ordered the animals to be vegetarians
1:30 - And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.
In the above verses the Lord God is categorically ordering everyone one to be a vegetarian. In these verses, he does not allow any consumption of meat at all.
Genesis 9:3
9:3 - Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
Commentary
Bible Genesis 9:3 is in contradiction to Genesis 1:29. The same Lord cannot give two different types of orders. In other words the Law of God does not change. However, in Genesis 9:3, the so called Lord allows humans to eat everthing that moves. In the next few verses, he confuses everyone further by making ambiguous statements. First read the verses below
- 9:4 - But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.
- 9:5 - And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.
- 9:6 - “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.
The narrator is clearly asking people to refrain from any type of bloodshed. This applies to animals too. In other words, no one is allowed to kill animals without justification as one will have to give an account for it in the court of the Lord. Killing animals just for the sake of food is not justified. This is how Kaal (devil) has misled everyone by giving contradictory statements.
What does God want to see - A Perfect State?
When the Lord God talks about a "perfect state", he says that even the lions will eat straw. Read Isaiah 65:25 and 11:6-9
- Isaiah 65:25 - The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,” says the Lord.
- Isaiah 11:6 - The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling[a] together; and a little child will lead them.
- Isaiah 11:7 - The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
- Isaiah 11:8 - The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
- Isaiah 11:9 - They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
What God promises is a place where there is no fear, no harm, no pain, no enimosity, no evil, no bloodshed, no killing. He wants to see a wolf and lamb reside together, and lion eating straw.
What then makes one think that God allows this bloodshed, killing of animals on the earth? The reality is that God does not want anyone to kill anyone be it human or animal. This is what he said in Genesis 1:29. Everyone is aware that killing involves, harm, hurt, pain, fear and bloodshed. God is against all this. That is why he professed everyone to be a vegetarian. Please also read Isaiah 66:3 below.
Isaiah 66:3 But whoever sacrifices a bull is like one who kills a person, and whoever offers a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck; whoever makes a grain offering is like one who presents pig’s blood, and whoever burns memorial incense is like one who worships an idol. They have chosen their own ways, and they delight in their abominations;
Daniel's Training in Babylon
In Daniel 1, there is an account of Daniel eating royal food and drink and looking worse than other men of the same age. Read the verses below.
- Daniel 1:12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.
- Daniel 1:13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”
- Daniel 1:14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.
- Daniel 1:15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.
- Daniel 1:16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.
Proverbs 23
- Proverbs 23:19 Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path:
- Proverbs 23:20 Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat,
- Proverbs 23:21 for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
Time and again one finds verses in the Bible which shun the consumption of meat. Although the proverbs are talking about consuming too much of wine and meat but it also proves that consuming meat is inherently against the Law of God. Being a vegetarian is what Bible has asked everyone to be. These verses do not talk about eating too much vegetables being bad.
Conclusion
In a nutshell the conclusion of the verse of Bible on the topic of vegetarianism is that the verses where killing living beings or eating meat is being advised, are not from the Supreme Lord. They are from the devil or from the angels themselves. Deutronomy 14:1-29 is a prime example of verses reflecting the view point of the devil rather than the Supreme God. These verse contradict other verses of Bible. God had made it clear right in the beginning that he wants everyone to be vegetarian. Therefore Bible professes human beings to be vegetarians.
What is the reason for devil to mislead everyone?
The main reason why devil misleads everyone is that he doesn't want people to go from his universe. He wants everyone to stay in his universe. He knows that if some becomes virtuous, does only noble deeds and does the worship of the Supreme Lord, that soul will be able to achieve liberation and escape from his universe. That is why he makes people commit sins such as kill animals, eat meat, drink vine, smoke tobacco etc.
