What is Waheguru & Who is Waheguru

Guru Nanak Dev Ji obtained True Naam (Satnaam) from a Complete Guru whom he met on the banks of River Bein who took Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Sachkhand (Satlok). Guru Nanak Dev Ji has sung the glory of a True Guru in His Bani in Shri Guru Granth Sahib on numerous occasions and have urged people to find a True Guru (Complete Guru) in order to achieve salvation.

Waheguru - Meaning

Guru Nanak Dev Ji went to Sachkhand and saw the Supreme Lord there. A True Guru took Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Sachkhand after Guru Nanak Dev Ji entered in to River Bein. After returning from Sachkhand Guru Nanak Dev Ji praised the Guru who gave Guru Nanak Dev Ji Satnaam and showed him Sachkhand, by repeatedly saying "Satnaam - Waheguru".

"Wah-Guru" - "Wonderful Guru". Satnaam Waheguru - "Wah Guru ji this is that Satnaam, the true naam by which one can achieve salvation"

Guru Nanak Dev Ji has emphasised the importance of a True Living Guru and naam in His Bani in Guru Granth Sahib Ji. To achieve salvation (moksh) one has to find a True living Guru (Satguru) who can impart satnaam to a being. Just by chanting "Satnaam-Waheguru" or "Waheguru", no salvation can be attained.

They never serve the feet of the Holy; their lives are totally useless. || 2 || Those who serve at the feet of the Holy, the feet of the Holy, their lives are made fruitful, and they belong to the Lord. Make me the slave of the slave of the slaves of the Lord; bless me with Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe. || 3 || I am blind, ignorant and totally without wisdom; how can I walk on the Path? I am blind O Guru, please let me grasp the hem of Your robe, so that servant Nanak may walk in harmony with You. || 4 || 1 ||

Who is this Waheguru?

The concept that God is formless is a farce.

"Guru Maniyo Granth" is true but to achieve salvation one will need a True Guru (Satguru) in form, otherwise according to Guru Nanak dev Ji one will continue to wander in the circle of life and death.

No one can overthrow those who have been established by the True Guru.

ਦੂਤ ਲਗੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥ (Page 18, Line 4)
The evil energies have been made to serve me, since I placed my faith in the True Guru.

ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੪॥੧੭॥(Page 20, Line 17)
The True Guru has united me in Union, O Nanak, with that God. ||4||17||

Day and night, continually serve the Lord God; the True Guru has given the Naam. ||2||

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੨੦॥(Page 22, Line 2)
O Nanak, make the True Guru your friend; going to His Court, you shall obtain the True Lord. ||4||20||

There is no other way to perform devotional worship, except through the Teachings of the True Guru. ||1||

One who has not met with the True Guru, the Primal Being, is bothered and bewildered in the terrifying world-ocean. Those who joyfully meet with the True Guru are perfectly fulfilled and wise.

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਰੰਡ ਨ ਬੈਸਈ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥(Page 54, Line 6)
That bride, who is absorbed into the True Guru, shall never become a widow.

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੬॥(Page 54, Line 9)
Other than her Beloved Lord, she knows no man. She enshrines love for the True Guru. ||6||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਭੈ ਵਸੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਸਖਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥(Page 54, Line 12)
The True Guru has led me to meet Him, and now I dwell in the Fear of God. O Nanak, His Love is always with me. ||8||2||

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥(Page 55, Line 6)
Wherever I look, I see only You. The True Guru has inspired me to see You.

Offer your most sincere prayers to the True Guru, so that He may unite you with your Best Friend.

ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥(Page 57, Line 10)
If one finds such a True Guru, the Lord is met with intuitive ease. ||3||

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਸੁਆਉ ॥(Page 58, Line 3)
Without the True Guru, the Name is not obtained. Without the Name, what is the use of it all?

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਤਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥(Page 59, Line 6)
Meeting the Perfect True Guru, we find the jewel of meditative reflection.

ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਣੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੁ ॥੩॥(Page 59, Line 10)
The True Guru is the Giver of peace, the Dispeller of pain, the Destroyer of demons. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੈ ਕਾ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥(Page 59, Line 12)
The True Guru is the only boat on this terrifying ocean. His Glance of Grace carries us across. ||4||

ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੋਇ ॥(Page 60, Line 10)
True love shall not be broken, if the True Guru is met.

ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥(Page 62, Line 14)
They contemplate the Unspoken Speech, merging in absorption in the True Guru.

ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਰਸਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥(Page 63, Line 12)
The Perfect True Guru, in His Pleasure, has met with me; the Guru has saved me, through the Name of the Lord. ||1||

I am a sacrifice to the True Guru.

ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥(Page 72, Line 1-2)
The angelic beings and the silent sages long for Him; the True Guru has given me this understanding. ||4|| The One Name is the Lord's Command; O Nanak, the True Guru has given me this understanding. ||5||

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਐਸਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੋ ਸਭਸੈ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੦॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥(Page 72, Line 8)
O Nanak, know Him as the True Guru, who unites all with the Lord. ||10|| Meeting with the True Guru, they receive the fruits of their destiny

Meeting with the True Guru, one comes to know; Without the True Guru, God is not found; all have grown weary of performing religious rituals. ||13||

ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ ਤਿਨੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥(Page 73, Line 4)
Those who have focused their consciousness on the True Guru, have rid themselves of the love of duality.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਸਭਿ ਥਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥(Page 138, Line 18)
Without the True Guru, emotional attachment is not broken. All have grown weary of performing empty rituals.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਨਿਬੇੜੁ ਝਗੜੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥(Page 139, Line 18)
The judgement is in the Hands of the True Guru, who puts an end to the argument.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਆਸਾ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ॥੫॥(Page 140, Line 8)
O Nanak, those who serve their True Guru, rise from desire to desirelessness. ||5||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਈਅਨਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥(Page 141, Line 6)
When the True Guru is pleased, we find the treasure of the jewel, deep within the self.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਿਛੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਵਹਿ ਏਹਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਖੋਟਿਅਹੁ ਖਰੇ ਕਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥(Page 143, Line 15-16)
They should worship and follow the True Guru-this is the lifestyle of excellence. The True Guru converts the counterfeit into genuine; through the Word of the Shabad, He embellishes and exalts us.

ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਈਐ ॥(Page 144, Line 17)
Without serving the True Guru, they do not obtain the home of peace; they are consigned to reincarnation, over and over again.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਐ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਖੈ ਕਾਰ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥(Page 145, Line 6-7)
Serve the True Guru fearlessly, and your doubt shall be dispelled. Do that work which the True Guru asks you to do. When the True Guru becomes merciful, we meditate on the Naam.

ਸਚਾ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਸਿਆ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਨਾਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਰਹਸਿਆ ॥(Page 146, Line 17-18)
The True Food is the Love of the Lord; the True Guru has spoken. When the True Guru is pleased, one receives the Lord's Name, and blossoms forth in His Love.

ਸਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸਚਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦਸਿਆ ॥(Page 148, Line 19)
Those who serve the Truthful True Guru are shown the True Path.

Hail to the True, True Guru, through whom we merge in the Truth.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੀਐ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਹਾ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੨੫॥(Page 149, Line 11-14)
When the True Guru is merciful, then your desires will be fulfilled. When the True Guru is merciful, you will never grieve. When the True Guru is merciful, you will know no pain.
When the True Guru is merciful, you will enjoy the Lord's Love. When the True Guru is merciful, then why should you fear death?
When the True Guru is merciful, the body is always at peace. When the True Guru is merciful, the nine treasures are obtained.
When the True Guru is merciful, you shall be absorbed in the True Lord. ||25||

ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਸੀਖ ॥(Page 152, Line 12)
True are the Teachings of the True Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਦਿਖਾਏ ॥(Page 153, Line 14)
Meeting the True Guru, we are shown the way to die.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਚ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਸੂਚਾ ॥(Page 153, Line 16-17)
Meeting the True Guru, duality is dispelled. Meeting the True Guru, one becomes truthful, chaste and pure.

ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੁ ॥ ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਕਥਹਿ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥ ਤੀਨਿ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਕਹਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਨੁ ॥ ਤੁਰੀਆਵਸਥਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤਰਣਾ ॥ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਹੈ ਮਰਣਾ (Page 154, Line 12)
One who loves the three qualities is subject to birth and death. The four Vedas speak only of the visible forms. They describe and explain the three states of mind, but the fourth state, union with the Lord, is known only through the True Guru. ||1||
Through devotional worship of the Lord, and service to the Guru, one swims across. Then, one is not born again, and is not subject to death.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥(Page 243, Line 12)
O Nanak, the Nectar of the Name is so sweet. Through the Perfect True Guru, it is obtained. ||4||2||

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥(Page 352, Line 18)
The True Guru bestows the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੂਟੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥(Page 353, Line 15)
But when one meets the True Guru, egotism departs, and then, one realizes his destiny. ||2||

ਕਿਸੈ ਪੜਾਵਹਿ ਪੜਿ ਗੁਣਿ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥(Page 353, Line 18)
Who do they teach? Through study, they come to realize the Lord's Glorious Virtues. Through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, they come to dwell in contentment. ||1||

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੫॥੨੦॥(Page 355, Line 8)
O Nanak, the True Guru has shown me the Lord God. ||5||20||

May I never forget the Naam, the Name of the One Lord. This is the wisdom of the True Guru. ||2||

If one surrenders his mind upon meeting the True Guru, who can estimate its value? ||7||

ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥(Page 421, Line 3)
By great good fortune, one meets the True Guru, and the supreme status of Nirvaanaa is obtained. ||1||

Coming and going is ended only when one finds the True Guru.

The True Guru has revealed to me the Primal Lord, the Infinite, my Beloved, the Unseen.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈਐ ॥੨॥(Page 436, Line 19)
O Nanak, through spiritual wisdom, the Lord, the Life of the world, is met; the True Guru imparts this understanding. ||2||

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥੩॥(Page 437, Line 3)
O Nanak, there is no place of pilgrimage comparable to the Guru; the True Guru is the Lord of the world. ||3||

ਕੋਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨਿ ਚੇਤਿਆ ॥(Page 439, Line 9)
That rare person who centers his consciousness on the True Guru, knows intuitively and realizes the Lord.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਏਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਭਰੰਮਿਆ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਣਿਅਹੁ ਲੋਕ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ (Page 465, Line 2-4)
If the Merciful Lord shows His Mercy, then the True Guru is found. This soul wandered through countless incarnations, until the True Guru instructed it in the Word of the Shabad. There is no giver as great as the True Guru; hear this, all you people. Meeting the True Guru, the True Lord is found; He removes self-conceit from within, and instructs us in the Truth of Truths. ||4||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥(Page 466, Line 8)
Meeting the True Guru, eternal liberation is obtained; He has banished attachment from within.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥(Page 468, Line 1)
One who meets the True Guru finds peace.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਧੁਨਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਝਗਰੁ ਨਿਬੇਰੈ ॥੩॥(Page 489, Line 12)
One who has the Divine Light within his heart, and is awakened to the melody of the Word of the Shabad - the True Guru settles his conflicts. ||3||

ਐ ਜੀਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥(Page 504, Line 13)
O Dear One, implant the Naam within me; lovingly attached to the Naam, I lean on the True Guru's Support.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਾਕਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਜਮ ਕਾਣਿ ਨ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਬਾਕੀ ॥੧॥(Page 505, Line 1)
One whose heart is filled with the Hymns of the True Guru, obtains the Pure Lord. He is not under the power of the Messenger of Death, nor does he owe Death anything. ||1||

ਆਨਦ ਮੂਲੁ ਨਾਥੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਾਥਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੫॥(Page 505, Line 6)
He is the source of bliss, the Greatest Lord; through the True Guru, we are united in His Union. ||5||

ਭਜੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਊਬਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਰਮਣੰ ॥੫॥(Page 505, Line 17)
Run to the Sanctuary of the True Guru, chant the Lord's Name in your heart, and you shall swim across. ||5||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈ ॥੪॥(Page 597, Line 9)
Serving the True Guru, the treasure is obtained; living the Word of the Shabad, one is emancipated. ||4||

ਸਾਕਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥(Page 597, Line 15)
The faithless cynic does not obtain the Lord's Love; the Lord's Love is obtained only through the True Guru.

ਮਰਤ ਪਇਆਲ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥(Page 597, Line 18)
In this world, in the nether regions of the underworld, and in the Akaashic Ethers, the Guru, the True Guru, has shown me the Lord; He has showered me with His Mercy.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਕਤ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਗਰਭ ਮਝਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥(Page 598, Line 1-2)
Meeting the True Guru, the Guru's Teachings are obtained; the faithless cynic loses the game of life. ||3|| Breaking my bonds, the True Guru has set me free, and I shall not be cast into the womb of reincarnation again.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਨੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੭॥(Page 635, Line 4)
One who meets with the True Guru, by His Grace, takes the Support of the Ambrosial Naam. ||7||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਤਰੇ ॥(Page 636, Line 3)
Those who serve the True Guru, O Beloved, their companions are saved as well.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਉ ਜਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਸਾ ਜੀਉ ॥(Page 689, Line 1)
I shall go and ask the True Guru, and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਤਾ ਸਹਸਾ ਤੂਟੈ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਵਰਜਿ ਰਹਾਈਐ ॥(Page 730, Line 15)
Meeting with the True Guru, doubt is dispelled, and the wandering mind is restrained.

ਇਕ ਭਾਇ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹਮ ਮੇਲੀਆ ॥(Page 843, Line 13)
Loving the One Lord, with one-pointed mind, the Naam dwells within; I am united with the True Guru.

ਖਿਮਾ ਗਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥(Page 932, Line 5)
I have adopted the way of tolerance, and given my mind to the True Guru.

ਮੇਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੨੧॥(Page 932, Line 12)
I have met Him; the True Guru has led me to meet Him. ||21||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥੩੬॥(Page 934, Line 18)
United by the True Guru, you shall remain united, and the pains of birth and death will be ended. ||36||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥(Page 939, Line 15)
Meeting the True Guru, darkness is dispelled.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ਲੀਆ ॥(Page 940, Line 15)
By pleasing the True Guru, the supreme status is obtained, and one is absorbed in the True Word of the Shabad.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥(Page 946, Line 8)
without meeting the True Guru, no one is liberated. Without meeting the True Guru, the Naam cannot be found.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਮਹਾ ਗਰਬਿ ਗੁਬਾਰਿ ॥ (Page 946, Line 9)
Without meeting the True Guru, one suffers in terrible pain. Without meeting the True Guru, there is only the deep darkness of egotistical pride.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਾਰਿ ॥੭੦॥(Page 946, Line 10)
O Nanak, without the True Guru, one dies, having lost the opportunity of this life. ||70||

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੌ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਿਨਾ ਧੁਰੇ ਪੈਯਾ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ॥੧॥(Page 956, Line 14)
O Nanak, they alone meet the True Guru, who are so pre-destined by the Lord's Command. ||1||

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥(Page 1012, Line 2)
Without the Name, nothing goes along with you; the True Guru has imparted this understanding.

ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥(Page 1021, Line 7)
The Word of the Shabad is understood through the Perfect True Guru.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥(Page 1024, Line 7)
The self-willed manmukhs have staged the show of falsehood. Without the True Guru, doubt does not depart. ||13||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ॥(Page 1024, Line 8)
The True Guru is the Creator Lord, independent and carefree.

ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥(Page 1025, Line 13)
He Himself is the True Guru, and He Himself is the servant; He Himself created the Universe. ||1||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਗ੍ਰਸਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥(Page 1028, Line 7)
Without the True Guru, there is no liberation. Bound and gagged by his own actions, he is helpless.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਇਉ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥(Page 1028, Line 13)
Accept as True, Perfectly True, the Word of the True Guru's Bani. In this way, you shall merge in the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ||14||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥(Page 1029, Line 9)
From the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages, the True Guru has been the boat; through the Lord's Name, He carries us across. ||8||

ਕੰਡਾ ਪਾਇ ਨ ਗਡਈ ਮੂਲੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਰਾਖਣਹਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥(Page 1029, Line 12)
Not even a thorn ever pierces the foot of one who has the True Guru as his Protector. ||11||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਵਡ ਦਾਣਾ ॥(Page 1030, Line 8)
The True Guru, the Primal Being, the Great Giver, is all-knowing.

ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੂਕਾ ਜਮ ਭੈ ਭਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥(Page 1030, Line 9)
One whom the True Guru unites in Union, is rid of the overpowering fear of death. ||6||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥(Page 1036, Line 17)
When they meet the True Guru, then they find the Perfect Lord; they obtain the treasure of Love. ||7||

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੈ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥(Page 1042, Line 8)
The Fearless True Guru is our Savior and Protector.

ਅਜਗਰ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥(Page 1043, Line 9)
Tell me, how can the heavy, rigid doors be opened? Without the True Guru, the essence of reality is not realized. ||11||

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥੫॥੨੨॥(Page 1043, Line 15)
O Nanak, the Lord, the Supreme Soul, is in all. The Guru, the True Guru, has inspired me to see the unseen Lord. ||15||5||22||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਉਤ ਹੀ ਠਾਇ (Page 1087, Line 15)
If the True Guru abides within my mind, then I see the Lord, my best friend, there.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾਂ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥(Page 1093, Line 2)
One meets the True Guru, and then the Lord is known, when the Word of the Shabad comes to dwell in the mind.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖੈ ॥(Page 1111, Line 18)
Through the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru, the separated soul-bride meets with the Lord; I place my body and mind before You.

ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਨਹੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰੀ ॥(Page 1171, Line 17)
Without devotional worship, the True Guru is not obtained. Without good destiny, devotional worship of the Lord is not obtained.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੩॥(Page 1189, Line 2)
The True Guru has shown me the Blessed Vision of the True Lord. ||8||3||

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥(Page 1232, Line 11)
Without the Name, everyone is poor; the True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||4||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਭਵਜਲਿ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੩॥(Page 1255, Line 15)
Meeting with the True Guru, I have found the Immaculate Lord; I shall not be consigned to this terrifying world-ocean ever again. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ॥੬॥(Page 1275, Line 8)
Without the True Guru, there is utter darkness; they drown there, even without water. ||6||

ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥(Page 1286, Line 2)
Serving the Perfect True Guru, I have found the Perfect Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੨੦॥(Page 1287, Line 10)
Those who serve the True Guru find peace; they are blessed with Grace by the Will of the Lord. ||20||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਭਉ ਊਪਜੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰ ॥(Page 1288, Line 9)
Through the True Guru, the Fear of God wells up, and the Door of Salvation is found.

ਇਕਿ ਭਗਵਾ ਵੇਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥(Page 1290, Line 11)
Some wander around in saffron robes, but without the True Guru, no one finds the Lord.

ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਦੇਖਾਇ ਦੇਇ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥(Page 1291, Line 1)
The True Guru is the All-knowing Primal Being; He shows us our true home within the home of the self.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਇਐ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਪਸੂ ਪਰੇਤਹੁ ਦੇਵ ਕਰੈ ॥੨॥(Page 1329, Line 1)
Finding the True Guru, the perfect cleansing bath is obtained, which transforms even beasts and ghosts into gods. ||2||

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਦੂਖ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਕਾਲ ਨਸੇ ॥੪॥੧੬॥(Page 1332, Line 9)
O Nanak, united in union with the True Guru, suffering, sin and death run away. ||4||16||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥(Page 1342, Line 3)
The True Guru saves us, implanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord within. ||1||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਛਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥(Page 1342, Line 6)
Seeking the advice of the True Guru, one finds the home of peace and poise. ||3||

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਬੂਡਿ ਮਰੈ ॥(Page 1343, Line 7)
Without the True Guru, you will not understand; deluded by doubt, you shall drown and die.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥(Page 1343, Line 16)
Without meeting the True Guru, no one is liberated.

ਭੂਖ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਜਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਤਿਪਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਏ ॥(Page 1345, Line 14)
The world has become hungry and thirsty; without the True Guru, it is not satisfied.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਟ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥(Page 1353, Line 9)
Without the True Guru, no one finds the Way. ||1||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਆਲਾਇ ਬੇੜੇ ਡੁਬਣਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਭਉ ॥੪॥(Page 1410, Line 10)
If you cry out for help from the True Guru, you have nothing to fear - your boat will not sink. ||4||
